DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 13-14; Ezekiel 14-15; John 5:1-23

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. John 14:27

This world is a place of unrest, yet as the Lord was leaving His disciples to go to the cross, He promised them peace. In the face of persecution and tribulation, this was a welcome promise. The Holy Spirit would assure their hearts of Christ’s spiritual presence with them. Thus believers may enjoy settled peace, though the circumstances around them are dark and difficult (Phil. 4:6-7). This inner tranquility flows from knowing that our sins are removed and we have security in Christ. In this world we are still in the battle, but when He comes our inward peace will match our outward situation. —Keith Keyser

Till we see Thy face, we never shall or can be fully blest;
In Thy presence nothing shall our peace molest. —Thomas Kelly

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 12; Ezekiel 13; John 4:31-54

And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will work for us: for there is no restraint to the Lord to save by many or by few. 1 Samuel 14:6

Escaped slave Fredrick Douglas said, “One and God make a majority.” In fact, God alone is a majority, but He delights in using frail things to display His power. Perhaps Jonathan thought of how Gideon defeated the Midianites with 300 men, or of how Samson single-handedly routed a thousand Philistines. Jonathan knew his own limitations and that God had none. His courage inspires us still. There is no situation, no enemy too big for God. —Warren A. Henderson

Ye that are brave now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.—George Duffield, Jr.

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 10-11; Ezekiel 12; John 4:1-30

Moreover, as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth will all your heart; for consider how great things He hath done for you. 1 Samuel 12:23-24

As we pray for those younger in the faith, we must also remember how important our testimony and walk will be in influencing them. As we demonstrate our dependence upon Him, as we joyfully serve Him, as we are characterized by a thankful spirit; they, too, will learn to exhibit those same attributes in their lives. —William Gustafson

Pure was the mind of Christ, sinless I see;
He the great example is, and pattern for me. —W. A. Ogden

Whatever the question, Christ is the answer. It doesn’t matter if the question concerns the meaning of life; the answer to suffering; or insights to the future. May we continue to learn of Him. —Tom Steere

Only a little longer to tread the desert sand,
In Christ’s deep love abiding, supported by His hand.
Only a little longer, for time speeds on its way;
The night, so long, is ending; soon comes the glorious day! —I. Fleming

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 7; Ezekiel 10; John 2:23 to 3:21

Which of you convinceth Me of sin? John 8:46

This was a question from the Lord which had only one answer—nobody! Our Saviour is sinless, spotless, pure and undefiled. He knew no sin (2 Cor. 5:21). He did no sin (1 Pet. 2:22). In Him is no sin at all (1 John 3:5). We praise and thank God today for One and only One who was not only willing but also able to pay the price of our sin because He Himself is sinless. —John M. Clegg

Thou wouldst like sinful man be made,
In everything but sin,
That we as like Thee might become,
As we unlike have been. —Joseph Stennett

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 6; Ezekiel 8-9; John 2:1-22

Ebenezer… Hitherto hath the Lord helped us. 1 Samuel 7:12

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh, (The Lord will provide). Genesis 22:14

Hudson Taylor, the founder of the China Inland Mission (currently the Overseas Missionary Fellowship), used to hang in his home a plaque with two Hebrew words on it: “Ebenezer” and “Jehovah-jireh.” They mean, “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us” and “The Lord will provide.” Whether he looked back or ahead, Hudson Taylor knew the Lord was at work, and he had nothing to fear. God’s Word does not change. Let us appropriate these truths for ourselves today. —W. Ross Rainey

Tis Jesus the First and the Last, whose Spirit shall guide us safe home:
We’ll praise Him for all that is past, and trust Him for all that’s to come.—Joseph Hart

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 4:24 to 5:26; Ezekiel 7; John 1:19-51

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21

Have you lost heart in this busy, mixed up world? You can track it by looking at two books—your bank book and your calendar. Where we spend our money and how we spend our time serve as indicators of what we treasure most. While it is true that, “You can’t take it with you,”—you can send it on ahead! Investing our lives in the bank of Heaven and redeeming the time by serving the Lord keeps our treasure in the right place and our hearts will follow. —Rex Trogdon

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart;
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art. —Mary E. Byrne

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 3 to 4:23; Ezekiel 5-6; John 1:1-18

Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself. Isaiah 2:8-9

Oh what sin can do! Here the Lord speaks of great men bowing down before idols. Men of strength become weak before a dead piece of wood. How like our society. Alcohol, immorality, pleasure and possessions are idols that bind people and make them weak slaves. Are there idols in my life that weaken my relationship with the Lord Jesus? May God give us freedom from them. —Johannes Bruwer

Purge me from every sinful blot; my idols all be cast aside;
Cleanse me from every sinful thought, from all the filth of self and pride. —C. Wesley

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 2; Ezekiel 3:16 to 4:17; 2 Timothy 4

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Romans 8:35

This verse seems to be an example of a literary device known as a litotes—a deliberate understatement for effect. Our times of trouble, suffering, hunger, nakedness, danger and death are permitted by the Lord; not to separate us from Him but to knit us to Him; not to hide His love but to reveal it; not to disconnect us from His presence but to bond us together forever. —M. MacMullen

God never moves without purpose or plan;
When trying His servant or moulding a man,
Give thanks to the Lord tho’ your testing seems long;
In darkness He giveth a song. —Ron Hamilton

DAILY?READINGS: Deut. 14:22-15:23; Song of Sol. 5:2-6:9; Luke 10:25-42

I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men: For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.    1 Timothy 2:1-2

In Choice Sayings Of Robert Chapman, he states concerning prayer: “If Christians knew how their prayers for kings and governors are heard in heaven, they would not be meddlers with this world’s politics.” Our responibility is to pray that the political atmosphere allows for a godly life.     —E. MacLelland

Shut in with Thee, far, far above,
The restless world that wars below,
We seek to learn and prove Thy love,
Thy wisdom and Thy grace to know. —A. Stewart
