DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 36; Psalm 89:1-18; Acts 21:17-40

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. Genesis 6:5-6

These two verses take us to the heart of the matter. Man’s heart and God’s heart. What is the matter with man’s heart? It is the chronic condition called sin—every imagination of its thoughts is only evil continually. At this the Lord was grieved in His heart and moved to stop man’s violence, resulting in the flood. Ultimately it culminated in the Father sending the Son of His heart into this world to pay the penalty of our sin. —Rex Trogdon

O Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee, near to the heart of God. —C. B. McAfee

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 35; Psalms 87-88; Acts 21:1-16

And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2

The Tabernacle only had one entrance: the gate. Upon coming there, the Brazen altar graphically presented the high cost of approaching the Holy God. Christ is the only way to the Father, for only His death met His righteous demands. The claims of divine justice were fully met at the cross, and the believer stands fully accepted in the Lord Jesus. —Keith Keyser

For us His blood was shed: for us He lives above:
Secured in Him our Head, God’s purposes of love.
God’s righteousness throws wide the door,
Whence mercy yields her boundless store. —Thomas Kelly

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 34:4-35; Psalms 85-86; Acts 20:17-38

He brought us out… that He might bring us in. Deuteronomy 6:23

The children of Israel were being taught by Moses that they should remember the Lord their God who had brought them out of Egypt. The plan to bring them into the Promised Land was delayed by 38 years due to disobedience. But, eventually, they made it. Brought out and brought in. So we too have, in salvation, been brought out of bondage into the liberty of the Gospel. That was an immediate and irrevocable change. In a day to come, either by death or at the Rapture, we shall be brought out of this world and into heaven itself. What a day that will be! —Roy Hill

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory. —E. E. Hewitt

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 33 to 34:3; Psalms 83-84; Acts 20:1-16

When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee, Thy face Lord, will I seek. Psalm 27:8

Naomi had lost all that she held dear—her husband and both her sons—and felt so alone. Perhaps not surprisingly, her thoughts turned to home. We often come to the same point. If all seems empty, we need to take stock of our situation as Naomi did, and make up our minds to return to where we left. When we do this, we can start again. It may involve confessing our sins and humbling ourselves before God but when we return to Him and the place of His will, we will receive His blessing once more. —G. Frear

Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true;
Thy salvation’s joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart.

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 32; Psalms 81-82; Acts 19:21-41

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. Proverbs 27:7

“Please don’t eat that. You’ll spoil your appetite!” I’ve often said this to my children, but it’s a good spiritual practice too. If we fill ourselves with worldly matters, the things of the Lord will not be appetizing. But if our hearts are full of things that are just, pure, lovely and good (Phil. 4:8), the world loses its appeal. Don’t ruin your appetite for godliness by indulging in the morsels of the world! —L. Shatford

I tried the broken cisterns, Lord,
But ah! the waters failed!
E’en as I stopped to drink they’d fled,
And mocked me as I wailed.
Now none but Christ can satisfy. —B. E.

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 31; Psalms 79-80; Acts 18:24 to 19:20

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. Numbers 23:21

Though the Israelites had murmured against God and doubted His faithfulness, positionally speaking, God beheld His redeemed people as without iniquity. Likewise, though Christians still have a lawless nature within them, God sees all believers in His Son and thus, “not in the flesh” (Rom. 8:12). Why? Because we are accepted in the Beloved (Eph. 1:6). Understanding how God sees us in Christ, not only provides assurance of salvation, but it prompts our daily “practice” to agree with our eternal “position” in Him. —Warren A. Henderson

Trust in Him, ye saints, forever, He is faithful, changing never;
Neither force nor guile can sever those He loves from Him. —T. Kelly

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 30:11-38; Psalm 78:32-72; Acts 18:1-23

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20

“There are other interpretations you know!” was the reply when I mentioned a certain passage of Scripture. This is a major problem in the church. Many want to interpret God’s Word according to their own desires, but most passages need no interpretation. The words mean what they say, and I must be humble enough to obey what I read. If God challenges me through His Word to change my ways, am I willing to obey? Or do I explain it away? —David Croudace

Open Thy Word of truth, that I may see
Thy message written clear and plain for me;
Then in sweet fellowship, walking with Thee,
Thy image on my life engraved will be. —Mary A. Lathbury

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 29:38 to 30:10; Psalm 78:1-31; Acts 17:16-34

Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. Romans 5:20

Even our righteous acts are like filthy rags in the eyes of God (Isaiah 64:6). Yet no matter how sin has revealed itself in us there is good news—the Gospel of the grace of God. On the cross the Lord Jesus paid the price for all our sins and whether great or few, God’s grace abounds more. Friend, you may have done great harm to yourself and others. Don’t despair. Trust Christ as your Saviour today and He will immediately forgive, change and welcome you as His own. —George Ferrier

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled. —J. H. Johnston

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 29:1-37; Psalms 76-77; Acts 17:1-15

I say unto you, that… joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:7

Do not think that you are unimportant! If you had been the only one—the Good Shepherd would have died for you! Today, as we remember that One who gave His life, thank Him with all your heart and soul, as if you were the only one He traversed this scene to save! Remember, all heaven rejoiced when you came to the Saviour. It is our privilege to give Him our whole-hearted praise today. —E. N.

Gathered to Thy name Lord Jesus,
Losing sight of all but Thee.
Oh what joy Thy presence gives us,
Calling up our hearts to Thee. —C. A. Wellesley
