DAILY READINGS: Exodus 33 to 34:3; Psalms 83-84; Acts 20:1-16

Ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

Christians are the Bride of Christ. He is the Bridegroom. We are also the Body of Christ. He is the Head. But here Peter calls us living stones in a unique building—the Church. This temple is unseen to the world but precious to the Lord. He is its firm foundation, the Cornerstone who never fails and He will one day become the Head of the corner—the One who completes the marvelous edifice. Are you a stone in this building? —E. MacLelland

The Church’s one foundation, is Jesus Christ her Lord,
She is His new creation, by water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her, to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her and for her life He died. —S. J. Stone

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 32; Psalms 81-82; Acts 19:21-41

Then cometh He to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? John 13:6

When the Lord came to Simon Peter, he asked, “Lord, dost Thou wash my feet?” His question was really a statement which grew into an exclamation. Thou shalt never wash my feet! The Lord warned, “If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me,” (John 13:8). Simon’s exclamation then turned into a request—for a bath! (John 13:9). We would do well to think about what we are asking, stating, exclaiming and requesting. It will do more than help our conversational skills. It will help us in our spiritual walk. —Rex Trogdon

I praise thee Lord for cleansing me from sin
Fulfill Thy Word and make me pure within. —J. Edwin Orr

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 31; Psalms 79-80; Acts 18:24 to 19:20

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. Romans 12:10

In the entrance hall to Wychnor Manor in South Staffordshire hangs a wooden carving of a side of bacon. It is placed there as a memorial to a former landlord’s stipulation that if any tenant could prove that he and his wife had not disagreed for a whole year, they would be given a side of bacon. Apparently there never were any claimants! So many disagreements could be avoided if we were to emulate the injunction of Paul in our verse today. Let us be slow to wrath and swift to hear. Quick to praise and hold others dear (James 1:19). —Brian Powlesland

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 30:11-38; Psalm 78:32-72; Acts 18:1-23

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:36

This verse sums up the absolute “centrality” of Christ. At the end of its anthem of praise, we are directed to the focus of all things—a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of everything that exists in the universe, whether visible or invisible. He is the Power, the Sustainer, the Enabler and the Owner of every minute detail of creation. Finally, as the Sum of all things, all streams flow back to His person because of His infinite worth. No wonder we must exclaim “To Him be glory forever. Amen." —S. D. B.

Praise Him, praise Him, Jesus our blessed Redeemer,
Sing, ye saints, His wonderful love proclaim.
Hail Him, Hail Him, mightiest angels in glory,
Strength and honour give to His Holy Name. —Fanny Crosby

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 29:38 to 30:10; Psalm 78:1-31; Acts 17:16-34

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. 1 Timothy 4:16

Sometimes, to act in accordance with God’s word can be embarrassing and painful. It can even affect our relationships with our closest family and friends, although naturally we do our utmost to avoid this. However, when it comes to the "crunch" the Lord must come first, and He has promised blessing to you and others if you honour His word. —Brian Russell

Lord grant that we aright may learn,
The wisdom Thy word imparts,
And to its heavenly teaching turn,
With simple childlike hearts. —B. Barton

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 29:1-37; Psalms 76-77; Acts 17:1-15

And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. Luke 24:15

It had been a long and weary walk for the heavy-hearted disciples, as they grieved the crucifixion and entombment of the Lord they loved. He was the subject of their grief and tears, but then, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. He knew exactly where they were on their sorrowful journey home to Emmaus. Beloved, He knows exactly where you are with your heart-breaking load as He joins you today. The remainder of the journey home was much easier, as “He went with them.” Walk at a less concerned pace today, and enjoy His presence and love. —Arnot P. McIntee

And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known. —C. Austin Miles

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 28:15-43; Psalms 74-75; Acts 16:16-40

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. Exodus 34:6

As the Lord passed him, Moses witnessed complete harmony between His person and His words. Likewise as the Lord Jesus walked this earth there was never any discrepancy between His character and His declaration (John 17:6, 26). His name (Jehovah is salvation) declared Him and His words and actions manifested His mercy, grace, longsuffering, goodness and truth in a harmonious way. To the believing witnesses it was a glorious sight worthy of worship. By faith it is to us as well. —George Ferrier

Jesus bruised and put to shame, tells me all Jehovah’s name;
God is love, I surely know by the Saviour’s depths of woe.—Robert C. Chapman

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 27:20 to 28:14; Psalm 73; Acts 15:36 to 16:15

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13

The sin in Eden is the cause of all the world's problems because man forfeited his communion relationship with his Creator. The Gospel brings better news. “Ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:13). Now there is a changed allegiance—we have left the ways and desires of the world; a changed position—we are now raised and seated with Christ; a changed condition—no more strangers, but citizens of heaven and children of the household of God. —Milton Haack

Nothing between my soul and the Saviour,
So that His blessed face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favour,
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between. —Charles Findley

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 26:31 to 27:19; Psalm 72; Acts 15:22-35

Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as He hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed His voice, therefore this thing is come upon you. Jer. 40:3

No, these are not the words of a prophet of Israel, although they could and should have been. They are the words of the Captain of the Babylonian army, Nebuzaradan. What an indictment when the unbelieving world around us can perceive God’s ways, but we cannot! Aided by the accuser of our brethren (Rev 12:10), unbelievers often see the glaring flaws in our testimony. Is our Gospel hid by unrepentant disobedience? —Rick Morse

Content to let the world go by, to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame; my glory all the cross.—Elizabeth Clephane

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 26:1-30; Psalms 70-71; Acts 15:1-21

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. Ecclesiastes 11:9

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth. Eccl. 12:1a

Solomon encourages youth to remember God and rejoice in Him but at the same time He gives a solemn warning of a day of accountability. As one gets older, so do the problems of life, often causing hearts to grow harder. There are permanent and temporal consequences to sin. With permanent consequences, no amount of repentance, reformation or restoration will ever undo them. Be wise in your life choices.—James Comte

Almighty God! Turn off their eyes from these alluring vanities;
And let the thunder of Thy Word awake their souls to fear the Lord.—Issac Watts
