DAILY READINGS: Exodus 25; Psalm 69; Acts 14

Who his own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree. 1 Pet. 2:24a

He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12b

Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, He gave up the Spirit. Luke 23:46b

What did the Lord Jesus give on our behalf? Nothing less than His body, soul and spirit! He suffered as no one else has ever suffered, in all three aspects of His being, all at once, and for all time. May our hearts be full of worship for Him today. —Tom Steere

Oh, my Savior crucified, near Thy cross would I abide,
Gazing with adoring eye on Thy dying agony. —Robert C. Chapman

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 24; Psalm 68; Acts 13:26-52

Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. Exodus 17:6a

Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters. Psalms 114:8

We often use the terms “strong as a rock.” This rock in the wilderness was no small stone for God stood on it, yet He was able to turn it into a pool from which all of Israel drank. God knows our strengths and desires to change and use them to be fountains and rivers of blessing to others. How does God plan to use you today? Let Him make of you what He wishes in order to make you a blessing to others. —Ken Gross

Lead to the shadow of the Rock of refuge, my weary feet;
Give me the water from the life-stream flowing—clear, pure and sweet. —Fanny Crosby

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 23:10-33; Psalms 66-67; Acts 13:1-25

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12

It was a pitch black night. I was on the far side of the bay when my light suddenly went out. How would I find my way back? The answer was simple. I set my eyes on the light of home. I stumbled a few times but gradually the light grew brighter until finally I reached my destination. Is life hard for you today? The way dark? Don’t be discouraged. Keep your eyes on the One who is our heavenly Light. His grace will see you through. Soon we’ll be home. —J. Fleming

Jesus is the light to show you the way,
If your path is dark or dim,
He will chase the shadows; brighten today,
You can safely trust in Him — J.F.

He Touched Me by Rex Trogdan

“A unique book. Many devotional books are good, but their scope prevents them from giving the doctrinal foundation of their promises. This sometimes leaves the reader uncertain. Likewise doctrinal books, also necessary, can leave the reader informed but untouched. Rex Trogdon has gone a long way to solve this problem and has given us a book that touches both the head and heart, it reaches both the mind and me. Believers young and old, especially those communicating the scriptures to others will benefit from He Touched Me. No reader will remain untouched. I heartily endorse it.”

– Brian Gunning

Get Yourself Baptized by John Williams
“Get Yourself Baptized”
offers a fresh look at an old topic. It underlines a Christian’s responsibility to obey the Lord’s Word and to give bold witness to his or her faith by getting baptized. Careful not to hurt feelings, the author is quite direct about what the Bible teaches on this important subject. The book will inform and challenge you to respond to Ananias’ words, first spoken to the new convert, Saul of Tarsus; “What are you waiting for? Get yourself baptized” (Acts 22:16).

Overcoming Your Bully by: Warren Henderson

“The flesh” describes the natural man. God has no program to change the flesh. Rather He brings in something new: “and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). A new struggle is brought to our attention. It is no longer the new nature or the believer striving for mastery over sin in the body; it is the Holy Spirit striving against the old nature. The little boy coming home from school was beaten up by a big bully. He was on the bottom, and the big bully was pounding him very heavily. Then he looked up from his defeated position on the bottom, and saw his big brother coming. The big brother took care of the bully while the little fellow crawled up on a stump and rubbed his bruises. The believer has the Holy Spirit to deal with the flesh, that big bully. I learned along time ago that I can’t overcome it. So I have to turn it over to Somebody who can. The Holy Spirit indwells believers. He wants to do that for us, and He can!

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 22 to 23:9; Psalms 64-65; Acts 12

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 16:25

Some have suggested that the great pyramid was constructed at the angle of light's refraction and that the ancient Egyptians expected their monarch’s soul to rise to heaven on a ray of sunlight. Pharaoh knew he had a soul, and he believed there was a heaven, but he missed it, for no ray of sunlight will ever convey a soul to glory. Paul had “a desire to depart, and to be with Christ” (Phil. 1:23) but his assurance lay in the fact that the Lord Jesus had died for him on the cross, and through Christ’s death his sins had been put away. All who believe this will one day be conveyed by Him to heaven. Will you be there? —R. Surgenor

On Christ salvation rests secure; the Rock of Ages must endure;
Nor can that faith be overthrown, which rests upon the living Stone. —Samuel Medley

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 21; Psalms 62-63; Acts 11:19-30

Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. Daniel 6:5

One hundred and twenty princes and three presidents (of which Daniel was the first), ruled over the Kingdom of Darius. These men were undoubtedly some of the most gifted men in the world, brilliant intellectually and administratively. Daniel stood above them all. Jealousy spurred them to destroy him and so this group, all 122 of them, set as their task to find fault with him. Yet after sifting his life with utmost scrutiny all they could find fault with was his faithful prayer life to his God. If our life were scrutinized would this be all that our accusers would find? —S. L. L.

To Thee with all my heart I pray, now at the dawning of the day;
I know Thou hast me in Thy care, and Thou wilt hear my prayer. —J. Reed

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 20:1-26; Psalms 60-61; Acts 11:1-18

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Isaiah 45:22

On January 6, 1843, the 15 year old C. H. Spurgeon heard an inexperienced preacher speak from this text. On that snowy morning, the church was almost empty. Nevertheless, God’s Spirit moved the sinburdened youth to heed the message and "look to Jesus." That very hour, he was saved as he simply trusted in the Lord Jesus. As he walked out into the deep snow, he rejoiced that, in God’s sight, he was "whiter than snow, through the precious blood of Christ," (1 Jn. 1:7). —George Hall

O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus! —Robert Lowry

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 19; Psalms 58-59; Acts 10:24-48

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel. 1 Peter 3:3

Kosmos is the Greek word for “adorning,” it means “orderly arrangement” or “decoration”. It is normally translated “world.” The word “cosmetics,” is derived from kosmos. Biblically speaking, the gray head testifies of acquired wisdom (Prov. 20:29) and a meek and quiet spirit is beautiful to God (1 Pet. 3:4). Why would we cover up what God deems is beautiful and garnish that which is but a fading garment? “In vain you will make yourself fair,” (Jer. 4:30). It is not our exterior, but the inner-man that God appreciates. —Warren Henderson

Bright youth and snow-crowned age, strong men and maidens meek,
Raise high your free, exulting song, God’s wondrous praises speak. —Edward H. Plumptre

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 18; Psalms 56-57; Acts 10:1-23

Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted His raiment, and cast lots. Luke 23:34

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabach thani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Mark 15:34

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30

Here we have three key words associated with the place called Calvary. What love—forgiving even His enemies! What hope—that by His sacrifice we can be drawn into fellowship with God! What peace—the sin question dealt with forever and God fully satisfied! —Pete Smith

On such love, my soul, still ponder, love so great, so rich, so free!
Say, while lost in holy wonder, why, O Lord, such love to me?—John Kent
