DAILY READINGS: Exodus 17; Psalm 55; Acts 9:32-43

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

Walking with God is a precious blessing for His children. It is especially appreciated when one is reminded that one walks through the fearsome valley of death’s shadow. Nonetheless, the Lord’s perfect love and unfailing presence banish fear from the faithful mind (Heb. 13:5; 1 Jn. 4:18). In this tumultuous and uncertain world, the saints are comforted by the Lord’s shepherd ministry in their lives. His correcting rod and protecting staff will safely guide them home. —K. R. Keyser

In the darkness, in the shadow, with the Saviour I have trod,
Sweet indeed have been the lessons, since I’ve walked alone with God.—Oswald J. Smith

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 16; Psalm 52-54; Acts 9:1-31

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58

What a challenge is found in these words particularly in view of the preceding verses about the coming of the Lord. It is to be noticed that it does not say to abound in work for the Lord, but in the work of the Lord. We must first find out what He wants us to do, before we can do the work of the Lord. Much that is done for the Lord today is not the work of the Lord. Let us take care to do what He commands and not what we think is best. —Harold G. Smith

Teach me Thy will, O Lord, teach me Thy way;
Teach me to know Thy word, teach me to pray. —William M. Bunyan

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 15; Psalm 51; Acts 8:5-40

And they told what things were done in the way, and how He was known of them in breaking of bread. Luke 24:35

What a testimony these two believers shared! Their exciting story of meeting the risen Lord on the Emmaus Road has encouraged many troubled children of God through the centuries. Your testimony and mine concerning God’s faithfulness can encourage distressed and discouraged souls in our own age. We can share with the fretting and fearful that our God is in control, and His Son, the Lord Jesus, has said, “Behold, I come quickly.” And we say, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”—Arnot P. McIntee

Soon, soon shall I know the full beauty and grace,
Of Jesus my Lord when I stand face to face;
I shall know how His love went before me each day,
And wonder that ever my eyes turned away. —Anna B. Warner

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 14:5-31; Psalms 49-50; Acts 7:30 to 8:4

Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Psalms 85:10

Calvary was the ultimate expression of God’s love. To show that love “God gave His only begotten Son” for sinners like us. It was also the ultimate expression of God’s holiness. To satisfy His holiness He laid upon His own Son the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:6). Christ “Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree," (1 Pet. 2:24). Now, in the words of a gypsy girl, comes a searching question, “You must love Him very much if He did all that for you?” Do you? Do I? —David Croudace

Do you love the Lord? Are you taking the time to be reading His word?
Do you trust and obey each and every day? Do you love the Lord?—Keith Lancaster

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 13 to 14:4; Psalms 47-48; Acts 7:1-29

Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Psalms 145:2

The sense of this word “bless” is “to speak well of”, both in Old and New Testament usage. The witness of the believer is to be a daily occupation of speaking well of our Saviour to others. Shining out from our daily communion, daily obedience, daily enjoyment, and daily growing in Christ will be the inevitable desire to tell someone—anyone—about the most amazing and wonderful Person we know. Most people don’t know anybody like that at all. Perhaps they’ll hear about Him from you today. —Rick Morse

Their daily delight shall be in Thy Name;
They shall as their right Thy righteousness claim. —C. Wesley

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 12:21-51; Psalm 45-46; Acts 6

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Philippians 2:16

Hold up the Scriptures continually in your thinking. Let their truths shine on all the steps that you take, on all the decisions that you make. Let their pure light infuse all your thoughts today. — D. Picku

Thy Word is a lamp to my feet,
A light to my path alway,
To guide and to save me from sin,
And show me the heav'nly way. —Ernest O. Sellers

Lord’s Day, February 20, 2011

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 11 to 12:20; Psalm 44; Acts 5:12-42

And sitting down they watched him there…Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. Matthew 27:36, 54

The centurion and his men probably thought that their job was more or less done. So, they watched. But the day was far from over. They were amazed at the quietness of the Man on the central cross. A few words of conversation with those crucified with Him and one loud cry, “It is finished” were all that was heard. But they also witnessed an earthquake and a darkness thick and heavy at noontime. As with all who watch Him they had only one response, “Truly this was the Son of God.” —Roy Hill

How I adore thee! O how I love Thee! Jesus the Son of God. —G. Haywood

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 10; Psalms 42-43; Acts 4:32 to 5:11

And He said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

This concept of discipleship is very practical. A disciple is one who follows to learn. In learning, a disciple gains deeper understanding of the cost involved. Sadly many disciples of earthly leaders have had their imagination fired by a charismatic personality with disastrous results and sometimes personal loss. We need have no fear about the consequences of our discipleship in Christ. The One we follow is the Captain of our salvation, leading many sons to glory (Heb. 2:10). —Drew Craig

It pays to serve Jesus what-e’er may betide,
It pays to be true what-e’er you may do;
‘Tis riches of mercy in Him to abide,
It pays to serve Jesus each day. —Frank C. Huston

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 9; Psalm 40-41; Acts 4:1-31

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Psalms 73:24

After He ascended to Heaven, the Lord sent His Holy Spirit. As believers, we have the Lord Jesus with us as our Heavenly guide but we also have His Holy Spirit in us as our constant companion. With His Word in our hands and in our hearts we have all the resources we need to be led in the right direction. Then at the end we will be escorted into glory to share in the pleasures at God’s right hand forever. He has provided everything for this life and the next! —Jim Paul

All the days He’s promised to be with us,
All the days to keep us in His love,
All the days to succour and sustain us,
All the days His faithfulness to prove. —J. Danson Smith

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 8; Psalms 38-39; Acts 3

Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. Psalms 45:3-4

What perfect balance there was in our Lord Jesus. There was grace and glory; meekness and majesty; humility and holiness; love of righteousness and hatred of lawlessness. Well could the Psalmist say, “Thou art fairer than the children of men,” and still His people delight to sing of the beauty of His person. —Jim Flanigan

Fairer than all the earth-born race,
Perfect in comeliness Thou art;
Replenished are Thy lips with grace,
And full of love Thy tender heart. —C. Wesley
