DAILY READINGS: Exodus 21; Psalms 62-63; Acts 11:19-30

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and
their iniquities will I remember no more. Hebrews 8:12

The “I will” statements of God in Hebrews 8:8-12 are in stark contrast
with the “I will” declarations of Lucifer in Isaiah 14. God
extends promises and covenants for the purpose of saving, restoring,
and blessing repentant sinners. Satan had no goal of helping others,
but rather desired heavenly preeminence, the worship of creation,
and the authority to rule it. He wanted to be God. May we humbly
align our “I wills” to God’s will and follow His example of being others-
focused in service. To God be the glory! —Warren Henderson

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son. —F. J. Crosby

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 20:18-26; Psalms 60-61; Acts 11:1-18

He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings: and the word which
ye hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me. John 14:24

Once at a street meeting, a drunk man staggered up to me and
loudly proclaimed, “I love God!” His mouth proclaimed his love for
God but his actions denied any love for Him. Jesus condemned such
conduct as hypocrisy. May God help us not only to praise Him with
our lips but to exalt Him with our lives. Obedience is the true measure
of our love. —Donald L. Norbie

May the mind of Christ my Saviour,
Live in me from day to day.
By His love and power controlling,
All I do and say. —Kate B. Wilkinson

Lord’s Day, February 28, 2010

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 19; Psalms 58; Acts 10:24-33

There they made Him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus
was one of them that sat at the table with Him. Then took Mary a
pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet
of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair: and the house was filled
with the odour of the ointment. John 12:2, 3

Martha served. If she had not, there would have been no supper.
Lazarus sat with Our Lord. He had spent four days in glory! Oh,
what he must have been thinking. How he adored the One who gave
him life! Mary displayed her worship visibly but silently. May we
find opportunity to serve, quietly muse on Him and openly worship
today. —Ken Gross

Gazing on Thee, Lord, in glory, while our hearts in worship bow,
There we read the wondrous story, of the cross, its shame and woe.—C. T.

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 18; Psalms 56-57; Acts 10:1-23

And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he
let the people go. Exodus 8:32

You may have heard the Gospel many times but keep hardening
your heart and still refuse to turn to Christ for salvation. Beware my
friend. You never know when God will accept your decision as final
and you will have had your last opportunity to be saved! Did He not
say in Noah’s day, “My Spirit will not always strive with man?”
Come today. Today is the day of salvation. —David Croudace

While God’s Spirit bids you come,
Sinner do not longer roam,
Lest you seal your hopeless doom,
Be in time. —Anon.

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 17; Psalm 55; Acts 9:32-43

I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is
the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to
the ministry of the saints,). 1 Corinthians 16:15

Many people are addicted to some vice or habit that results in sorrow
and regret. Yet not all addictions are bad. Paul admired the
brethren in Achaia for their addiction. But addicted to what? The
ministry of the saints, serving God’s people. They set themselves to
serve the people of God. What an honour! What is the result of such
an addiction? The Lord Jesus said after washing His disciples feet, “if
ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” —Sid Halsband

I wonder have I done my best for Jesus,
Who died upon the cruel tree?
To think of His great sacrifice at Calv’ry! —Ensign Edwin Young

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 16; Psalm 52-54; Acts 9:1-31

Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for He hath torn, and He
will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up. Hosea 6:1

The Scriptures consistently portray the Lord as the God of restoration
and recovery. His purposes embrace not only Israel’s national
recovery, as seen here in Hosea, but also personal restoration, as seen
in Peter’s case. Herein lies great encouragement for us! Let us personally
“return to the Lord”, applying Biblical principles of restoration
to our lives. Thus “healed and bound up”, it may please the Lord
to use us in the recovery of others (see Luke 22:32). —G. Hall

Lord, speak to me, that I may speak,
In living echoes of thy tone;
As thou hast sought, so let me seek,
Thy erring children, lost and lone. —Bernard of Clairvaux

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 15; Psalm 51; Acts 8:5-40

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all
men, apt to teach, patient. 2 Timothy 2:24
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ:
that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of
your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving
together for the faith of the Gospel; Philippians 1:27

In the days of sailing ships, during a major naval battle the captain
of a ship came upon two of his officers whose disagreement on how
to conduct the battle had led to blows. He jerked them apart, pointed
them in the same direction, saying, “Gentlemen, there’s the enemy.”
—David Logan

Christian hearts, in love united, seek alone in Jesus rest;
Has He not your love excited? Then let love inspire each breast.—N. L. V.Z.

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 14:5-31; Psalms 49-50; Acts 7:30 to 8:4

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the
LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man can lead us into sin and keep us from speaking out
in boldness for Christ. It is a snare that subtly traps us into finding
security in the approval of men. We need to remember that “the fear
of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death”
(Proverbs 14:27). As we see God for who He is, temptation and fear
fade proportionately. The fear of man will keep you from fearing the
Lord and the fear of the Lord will keep you from fearing man.
—Dennis Easton

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace. —Helen H. Lemmel

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 13 to 14:4; Psalms 47-48; Acts 7:1-29

The day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his
heart. Song Of Solomon 3:11

The wedding day of Solomon anticipates the coming marriage of
the Lamb. Solomon had wooed and won the bride’s affections and
now the joyful day of consummation had arrived. Our Beloved paid
a great price for His bride, even His own life’s blood at Calvary. The
day is soon to come when He will claim His bride and take her to
Himself, to share His love, His Throne for all of eternity. What a day
of rejoicing that will be. —W. H. Burnett

O the blessed joy of meeting, the entire desert past!
O the wondrous words of greeting, He shall speak at last.
He and I together entering, those bright courts above,
He and I together sharing, all the Father’s love. —Paul Gerhardt

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 12:21-51; Psalm 45-46; Acts 6

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers
of that one bread. 1 Corinthians 10:17

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are intimately united to
Him. This brings wonderful privileges and responsibilities. One such
privilege will be our participation today, in countries all around the
world, in a remembrance feast to Him. As for responsibilities in this
context, we would do well to heed the exhortation, “Let a man examine
himself and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup” (1
Cor. 11:28). Besides examination, we need to fill our hearts to the brim
with love, devotion and worship. Then what a joy it will be to pour
them out before Him. —Drew Craig

Thy body broken for my sake; my bread from heaven shall be;
Thy testamental cup I take and thus remember Thee. —J. Montgomery
