DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 1; Ezekiel 2 to 3:15; 2 Timothy 3

Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou
shalt glorify Me. Psalms 50:15

Days of trouble are oft en the portion of the Lord’s people. This should
not be surprising. The Lord said it would be so, “In the world ye
shall have tribulation.” Oft en calls to friends for help or assurance
may go unanswered. In troubled times some friends seem to fade
away. But, says the Lord, “Call upon me in the day of trouble.” We
know that He will hear and answer our cry and if He does not remove
the trouble He will certainly guide us through it. Like David,
call on Him today! You will not be disappointed. —Roy Hill

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 24; Lamentations 4-5; 2 Timothy 1

When the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel
were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one
man to Jerusalem. Ezra 3:1

What a time of joy it is to fellowship with the family of God, whatever
the occasion. In this verse, the people of God gathered themselves
together to revitalize their hearts and their worship to God.
But what is even more noteworthy is the fact that the people came
together “as one man”. Only the att ractiveness of the Lord can ignite
unity like this. May our eyes be upon Him. As a result we will
unite “as one man” to worship and serve Him. —J. D. Fraser

O Lord, unite us now as one, to magnify Your Name;
To praise You for Your faithfulness, eternally the same. —R. E. Cottrill

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 23; Lamentations 3; 1 Timothy 6

If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema
Maranatha. 1 Corinthians 16:22
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.
Amen. Ephesians 6:24

In his closing remarks, Paul poses a warning to the Corinthians and a
promise to the Ephesians. The disorderly Corinthians were told that
love for the Lord Jesus is witnessed in holy living and selfl ess love
for others. The Ephesians were told that those who showed such love
were evident recipients of God’s grace, for we can only love God aft er
fi rst experiencing His love (1 Jn. 4:19). Do you love the Lord Jesus? A
life lived by His grace will prove it. —Warren Henderson

Take my love my God, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee. —F. R. Havergal

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kgs. 21:19 to 22:20; Lam. 2; 1 Tim. 5

If any man serve Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there
shall also my servant be: if any man serve Me, him will my Father
honour. John 12:26

In the immediate context of this verse, the Lord is stating that ahead
of Him lies the Cross. For those who would serve Him, it cannot be
otherwise. “Let him follow Me” is a call to be identifi ed with His
rejection. “Take up the cross and follow Me” (Mt. 16:24), is the requirement
of all His followers. To share in the Son’s rejection today,
will ensure the Father’s honour hereaft er! —George Hall

Jesus calls us! By Thy mercies, Saviour, may we hear Thy call;
Give our hearts to Thy obedience, serve and love Thee best of all.

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kgs. 20 to 21:18; Lam. 1; 1 Tim. 4

Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His
reproach. Hebrews 13:13

There is a place that has litt le fl eshly appeal. It is a singular place, a
unique place, and frequently a small place. Typically, it is the place of
the few. For it is away from the world, and near to Calvary. It is found
only by those who seek a Person. That Person is the Lord, whom the
seekers love to honour above all others. Unto Him shall the gathering
of the people be. Let us go forth therefore unto Him, outside of all
else, and there let us worship Him alone. —Doug Kazen

Gathered to Thy name Lord Jesus, losing sight of all but Thee;
O what joy Thy presence gives us, calling up our hearts to Thee.
Loved with love which knows no measure, save the Father’s love to Thee,
Blessed Lord, our hearts would treasure, all the Father’s thoughts of Thee.—C. A. W

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 19; Jeremiah 52; 1 Timothy 3

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctifi
ed, but ye are justifi ed in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the
Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

The true Christian has a sinful past, but he doesn’t live or behave
like he did before. We were living as sinners, but not now. “Are”
refers to our present condition. When the Lord saves a person, He
washes him from his sin, making him clean. He sanctifi es him, setting
him apart to live for God, to live a separated life. And He justifi
es him, declaring him righteous because of his faith in Christ.
A person whose present is like his past, ought to question their
spiritual status. If you’re the same as always, you need to be saved.

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? —Elisha A. Hoff man

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 18; Jeremiah 51:25-64; 1 Timothy 2

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the
feeling of our infi rmities; but was in all points tempted like as we
are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Whatever hardships and trials we are undergoing today, we know
that our great High Priest understands what we face, and has the
incomparable resources to meet our every need. Christ proved His
suitability as a comforting intercessor by successfully enduring
temptations and opposition—call on Him today! —K. R. Keyser

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labour, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love. —A. J. Flint

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 17; Jeremiah 51:1-24; 1 Timothy 1

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifi ce, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

Because we have been bought by the precious blood of Christ we belong
to God. Whatever He asks of us, we should freely give. When
Abraham was asked of God to off er his beloved son, he obeyed
without question or hesitation. Did God want Isaac’s life? No, a
substitute was provided at the last moment. The test was over. It
was Abraham’s heart that God wanted and He received it! Abraham
demonstrated his faith through unwavering obedience. Are we willing
to do the same? —E. MacLelland

Soft ly He whispers wherever thou art,
“Fully trust me, and give to me thy heart.” —E. E. Hewitt

DAILY READINGS: 2 Kgs. 15:32 to 16:20; Jer. 50:21-46; Tit. 2:9 to 3:15

He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Revelation 21:5

God’s clock is winding down. Looking over the ruination of His
once perfect universe, He declares, “I will make all things new”.
But, before He begins that great task, an urgent act of compassion
fi lls His heart. Dear child of God, He will wipe away all tears from
our eyes. When He has att ended to us, then He will again display
His creative genius and “make all things new”. Rest today knowing
He will personally wipe away your last tear and then the day of
eternal joy will dawn. —Arnot McIntee

He lives to silence all my fears, He lives to wipe away my tears,
He lives to calm my troubled heart, He lives all blessings to impart.—S. M.
