DAILY READINGS: Numbers 16:41 to 17:13; Proverbs 14; 2 Peter 1

He said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham…I
being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s
brethren. Genesis 24:27

Abraham’s servant was to fi nd a wife for Isaac. Faced with such a
daunting task, he sought the Lord. With His help, he was able to
convince a young woman to travel to a place she’d never been, marry
someone she didn’t know, and live in a land she’d never seen! Afterwards,
he rejoiced, knowing it was God who had led him. Wise is
the Christian who fi rst seeks, then commits to the Master’s way. It’s
then that we learn what trusting God is all about, and it’s then that
we’ll experience His divine interventions! —D. Manera

I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all;
But whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess. —M. Luther

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 16:1-40; Proverbs 13; 1 Peter 5

For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it,
and too much. Exodus 36:7

When someone is truly in love, their heart is usually overfl owing,
and if you have someone’s heart, you really have all of them. If the
Lord has our hearts, there is so much that He can do through us, because
we are willing to let Him. His work goes bett er and our heart
overfl ows with a willingness to give eff ort, time, and resources to
His cause. Conversely, when there is a scarcity of love; eff ort, time
and resources are so hard to give over to the Saviour. Are we really
in love with Him? —Craig Funston

Lord, Thy love has sought and found us, wandering in this desert wide,
Thou hast thrown Thine arms around us, for us suff ered, bled and died:
Sing my soul! He loved thee, Jesus gave Himself for me. —J. J. Hopkins

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 15; Proverbs 12; 1 Peter 4

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye
may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2

A neighbours’s calf wandered into our fi elds. It was scrawny and
suff ering from severe malnutrition. I phoned my neighbour to let
him know where it was. He said a cow had died but he did not realize
it had a calf and suggested I keep it as he had no means of feeding
it. A month later, having been fed by a nurse cow, it was strong
and healthy. Today there are many Christians as “skinny” as that
malnourished calf because they scarcely ever read the Bible. They
are spiritually starving. Do you desire the milk of the Word? It is the
only means of spiritual growth and health. —J. Fleming

Lamp of faith, my feet to lead, Bread of heav’n, my soul to feed;
Living waters pure and free, book of books thou art to me. —F. Crosby

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 14; Proverbs 11; 1 Peter 3

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given Me, be with Me
where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given
Me: for thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:24

The Lord suff ered as the Man of sorrows at the cross, and then entered
into His glory through the resurrection and ascension. The
believer’s blessed destiny lies with Christ in glory. “When He shall
appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.” (1 Jn.
3:2) Through the eye of faith, gaze on Him today in the Scriptures
and lift up your heart in worship. —K. R. Keyser

We triumph in Thy triumphs, Lord; Thy joys our deepest joys aff ord,
The fruit of love divine: while sorrowing, suff ering, toiling here,
How does the thought our spirits cheer, the throne of glory’s Thine!—J. Deck

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 12-13; Proverbs 10; 1 Peter 2

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life. John 3:16

The 25 words in this verse have been called the gospel in its purest
form. The fi rst 12 words speak about God, the fi nal 12 about ourselves
and Son is the centre. In this verse is the greatest love we can
ever know, the greatest gift we can ever have and the greatest choice
we can ever make. Have you made that choice? —John M. Clegg

What was it, O our God, led thee to give Thy Son,
To yield Thy well-beloved for us by sin undone?
Twas love unbounded led Thee thus,
To give Thy well-beloved for us. —Anne Gilbert

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 11:4-35; Proverbs 9; 1 Peter 1

He asked Pharaoh’s offi cers that were with him in the ward of his
lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly today? Gen. 40:7

Henry Law, the Puritan writer, said, “Great doors swing on small
hinges.” So it was with this question that Joseph addressed to the
butler and the baker in the Egyptian prison. It transformed his life
and led him from the prison to the palace. Seemingly insignifi cant
circumstances may be the small hinge which God wants to use to
open a great door in our lives. May we be sensitive and cooperate
with the plans He has for us. God can use Spirit prompted questions
to get us involved in His work. Have we asked one recently?
—Drew Craig

There would I be, Thou Who hast labored and sorrowed for me;
Whithersoever Thou goest, There will I follow Thee. —Fanny Crosby.

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 10:11 to 11:3; Proverbs 8; Jude

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all
men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5

Dr. R. A. Torrey was once teaching a class on the epistle of James.
When he came to this verse, he asked the students what was the
primary secret of obtaining wisdom. Everyone replied, “Asking
God”. Aft er making them think a litt le more about the matt er, he
told them that they had missed the point. He then indicated that
the secret of obtaining wisdom is realizing that we lack it. When we
so pray, God promises to give us His wisdom “liberally” or “generously,”
and He won’t “upbraid” or “fi nd fault” with us for asking.
—W. Ross Rainey

O great God, my heart cries out to Thee;
Pour out Thy wisdom, grace and truth on me. —A. R. M.

DAILY READINGS: Num. 9 to 10:10; Prov. 6:20 to 7:27; Mark 16

Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give
an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that
is in you with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3:15

This verse has some excellent advice for soul winners. First of all
we should be consistently ready to witness. Our readiness will be
greatly enhanced if we have set apart the Lord in our hearts, giving
Him His rightful place. Readiness also comes from knowing what
to say. We’ll fi nd it through reading our Bible. Finally let us also be
meek towards those who are seeking the truth. Never get angry, or
walk away from a questioner, no matt er how aggravating they may
be. Be an eff ective witness and soul-winner! —Robert E. Surgenor

As a living graft ed shoot, nourished from a hidden root;
We may bear all holy fruit, through the love of Christ. —Wm. Reid

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 8; Proverbs 5 to 6:19; Mark 15:24-47

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man,
and maketh fl esh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the
LORD. Jeremiah 17:5

Although many religious leaders are teaching that we need a good
self-image, no true saint of God ever had one. For example, Abraham,
the friend of God, said he was “but dust and ashes” (Gen.
18:27). In God’s presence Job said, “I am vile” (Job 40:4). Solomon
confessed to the Lord, “I am but a litt le child” (1 Ki. 3:7), and Isaiah
said, “I am undone” (Isa. 6:5). They saw themselves as frail, lowly,
ignorant, helpless and ruined. True saints esteem God, not self. We
are not worthy, but He is! —Carl Knott

Worthy of homage and of praise; worthy by all to be adored:
Exhaustless theme of heav’nly lays! Thou, Thou are worthy, Jesus, Lord!
—Anon

DAILY READINGS: Numbers 7; Proverbs 4; Mark 15:1-23

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fi ne gold:
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalm 19:10

Our Creator placed materials inside the earth for mankind’s welfare.
There is silver, gold, iron ore, copper, uranium and carbon which
crystallizes into diamonds. These rich resources become usable only
when discovered and mined. Likewise, the Scriptures contain nuggets
of truth for the enrichment of our spiritual well-being. When
we study God’s Word we’re mining its depths for treasure more precious
than gold. —E. Dyck

Thy Word is like a garden Lord, with fl owers bright and fair;
And everyone who seeks may pluck a lovely cluster there.
Thy Word is like a deep, deep mine; and jewels rich and rare;
Are hidden in its mighty depths for every searcher there. —Edwin Hodder
