DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 13:24-59; Psalm 118; Mark 4:1-20

Be not afraid of them: remember the Lord. Nehemiah 4:14a

Surrounded by relentless opposition, the wall builders of Nehemiah’s
day had every right to fear for their lives. In the att acks and
threats they faced, we see the whole quiver of Satan’s fi ery darts,
aimed at the hearts of God’s people doing God’s work. It’s still that
way, but through the wisdom of God’s Word we are not ignorant of
his devices. What kind of att ack is keeping you from doing what He
wants you to do? The prescription is to “remember the Lord”. In our
weekly remembrance of Him, we come to off er spiritual sacrifi ces. A
practical outfl ow of this frequent remembrance is that it engenders
a powerful habit—to keep our eyes upon Christ. —Rick Morse

On Thy pale and suff ering brow, mystery of love and woe;
On Thy grief and sore amaze; Saviour, I would fi x my gaze.—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: Lev. 12 to 13:23; Psalms 116-117; Mark 3:13-35

He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant.
Psalm 105:17
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance.
Psalm 105:21

Just as God sent Joseph, He sent another Man, “the Man Christ Jesus”
(1 Tim. 2:5), and He made Him Lord. “God hath made that
same Jesus…both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36). However, Joseph
was made Lord only over earthly things. Our Man in the glory will
one day hear “every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God The Father” (Phil. 2:11). What a glorious day that will
be! May we give Him our worship today. —A. Fiebig

He is Lord, He is Lord; every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord.—E. Graham

DAILY READINGS: Lev. 11; Psalms 113-115; Mark 2:23 to 3:12

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:3

Man’s search for spiritual insight leads him to comb the annals of religious
literature. Many seek meaning from within. Others look for
truth in nature. Still others imagine that God is distant and unknowable.
Nevertheless, true wisdom and knowledge are centred in the
Lord Jesus Christ. People have only to listen to the words of Christ
to discover the reality of God and His plan for the universe, for the
Father has revealed Himself in the person of His Son. —K. R. Keyser

Replenished are Thy lips with grace,
And full of love Thy tender heart:
God ever blest! We bow the knee,
And own all fullness dwells in Thee. —Charles Wesley

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 10; Psalms 111-112; Mark 2:1-22

All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the
street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the
scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had
commanded to Israel. Nehemiah 8:1

Nehemiah…said unto all the people…mourn not, nor weep. For all
the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. Neh. 8:9
The patt ern for revival in our day must of necessity follow this biblical
example. There must be unity among the people of God; a determination
to return to the patt ern shown in the Word of God, and
there must be repentance, both personal and corporate, if blessing is
to follow. May God bring it in our day. —W. H. Burnett

Revive Thy work O Lord! Create soul thirst for Thee,
And hung’ring for the Bread of Life, O may our spirits be! —Albert Midlane

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 9; Psalms 109-110; Mark 1:21-45

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine
eye evil, because I am good? Matt hew 20:15

“Are you envious because I am gracious?” This question arose because
the Lord had just spoken a parable where the employer in the
story gave the same wages to those who worked for just one hour as
he gave to those who worked for 12 hours. Human logic says, “They
have every right to complain; it’s not fair!” But those who worked all
day had previously agreed to their wages! So they really had no complaint
if the employer showed grace to the others. Grace does not pay
wages, it is a gift . How thankful we should be. —Drew Craig

To God be the glory, to God be the glory, for the things He has done,
With His blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me,
To God be the glory for the things He has done.—Fanny Crosby

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 8; Psalm 108; Mark 1:1-20

We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are
weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
1 Corinthians 4:10

The Corinthian believers treated Paul as a fool to speak the way he
did regarding spiritual wisdom and to suff er the way he did for
Christ’s sake. Just as they would tolerate fools, Paul asked them to
tolerate him and listen to him that he might be a true spiritual father
to them. He even asked them to emulate him. The world calls today
April Fool’s day. Are you prepared to be Christ’s fool every day, and
speak up for him? —K. C. Ung

To the hardest of places He calls me to go, never thinking of comfort or ease;
The world may name me a dreamer, a fool; tis enough if the Master I please.

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 7:11-38; Psalm 107; Acts 28:17-31

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. John 15:1

Hudson Taylor has some lovely thoughts on this verse. He points out
the following: “The fi rst two words, ‘I am’ give us the key to the whole
secret of fruitfulness. Not what we are, but what He is; not what we
do, but what His life works in and through us is the question of the
moment. Hosea 14:8 says, ‘How is thy fruit found?’ It is found in and
through Him. He is the true fruit bearer.” May His fruitfulness flow
through us and bring much blessing out of our lives. —L. Pell

How I praise Thee, precious Saviour,
That Thy love laid hold of me;
Thou hast saved and cleansed and fi lled me
That I might Thy channel be. —Mary Maxwell

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 6:8 to 7:10; Psalm 106; Acts 28:1-16

Her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to
eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. Isaiah 23:18b

Anumber of years ago as we were in a store, I watched as a young
girl tried on a number of beautiful coats. Her father was with her and
together they were trying to pick out the best garment for her. This
verse reminded me of that occasion, when a loving father carefully
helped choose a good, warm coat for his daughter. Our loving Father
is concerned about His children too; that we have suffi cient to eat and
durable clothing. How enveloped we are in his love. He rules and
directs this world, yet is concerned for our welfare. —M. Robins

Clothed in garments of salvation, at Thy table is our place,
We rejoice, and Thou rejoicest, in the riches of Thy grace.—J. G. D.

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 5:14 to 6:7; Psalm 105; Acts 27:27-44

Now the God of hope fi ll you with all joy and peace in believing,
that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

Even as He died, the Lord Jesus’ legacy to those around Him spoke
of hope, joy and peace. To His most intimate disciple, He left His
mother. To a traitor, He left the dipped sop of friendship. To the
soldiers He left His robe. To the dying thief He left the certainty
of paradise. To His Father in heaven He left His Spirit; and to His
people He left His peace. What a lasting heritage! —Les Rainey

We praise Thee, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring;
We lay it before Thee, we kneel and adore Thee,
We bless Thy holy name, glad praises we sing. —J. B. Cory

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 4:27 to 5:13; Psalm 104; Acts 27:1-26

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:7

A noticeboard outside a church building in Alabama said, “If you
don’t like the way you were born, try being born again.” The Lord
Jesus gave a stronger message to a religious leader in his day. He
told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again.” Note he said “must”,
not “would be advised” or “try”. To be born into the human race
was not something you or I had a choice in. But to be born again is
an individual person’s own matt er of deliberate choice and positive
action. Have you been born into the family of God by exercising
personal faith in the Lord Jesus? —Brian Powlesland

Ye children of men att end to the word, so solemnly utt ered by Jesus the Lord;
And let not this message to you be in vain, Ye must be born again!—W. T. S.
