He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:3 NKJV

David describes God’s heavenly salvation as being centered on His mercy and truth. While David only saw the Saviour, sent from heaven, from afar off, what a wonderful thought to consider—that for us, mercy and truth come not as ideas but as God’s Son Himself, tabernacling among us. He did this so that He might “give his life a ransom
for many” (Mark 10:45). On this day when we reflect on God’s great goodness to us, our hearts swell with thankfulness and we say with David, “I will praise you, O Lord, among the peoples.” —J. D. Fraser

“I am the Lord, I do not change” (Mal. 3:6 NKJV). The same God who brought the Israelites out from slavery in Egypt with an outstretched arm, brought us out from the slavery of sin when our Lord Jesus Christ stretched His arms out on the cross. May we worship Him and thank Him for His indescribable gift (2 Cor. 9:15)! —Annette Baal

Moses led the people of God as far as he could. Now it was time to pass on the baton of leadership to Joshua. But Moses still had a responsibility to Joshua. He was to encourage and strengthen him. When overseers recognize their time of leadership has come to an end, they still have a great responsibility to encourage and strengthen the next generation of leaders. —Sid Halsband

It is said that the saintly nineteenth century Scottish preacher, Robert Murray M’Cheyne, used each birthday as an opportunity to gauge his spiritual progress from year to year. It is no wonder that he saw revival in Dundee and is held up as a great example of consecrated godliness. We must not allow our lives to drift as it is too easy to develop habits which can undermine our development in Christlikeness. We need to make ourselves aware of the constant need for spiritual progress and that requires discipline in prayer, obedience to God’s Word and a real desire to bring glory to the name of Christ. —Paul Young

In the margin of George Mueller’s Bible, he wrote, “The steps (and the stops)…”. How many of us have experienced the “stops” of the Lord, and have not understood why? We have a limited view of our life, but the Lord, in His omniscience knows what is best, and in His wisdom and grace He may bring a stop! We have sight only for the
present. Our sovereign God knows all our future, and will direct us as we allow Him. Is there a “stop” in your life right now? Then “delight in His way”. There’s a reason that you may not understand today, but you will tomorrow! —Jim Comte

Here are three men who made tremendous statements when they saw the Lord. Simeon saw Him as a young child. Nathanael saw Him as He commenced His public ministry. Thomas saw Him after He had risen from the dead. One day (perhaps today!) we will share the same experience of seeing Him. I wonder what we shall say on that day? —John M. Clegg

Every day at home we have endeavoured to thank God for His provision and protection, but most of all for His presence. The nearness to us of our blessed Saviour can never be overstated. We may forget Him, but He never forgets us. Paul could say that the “Lord is at hand” or literally “at our elbow” (Phil. 4:5). Do not necessarily wait for the feeling, just enjoy this fact today. —Brian Russell

Fear is endemic in this world, yet believers take their anxieties to the Lord, who promises: “Fear not”. This command stems from His work of bringing His sons to glory. Because of His death, resurrection, and ascension, we are safe in His almighty hand, and will surely be in the Father’s house with Him (John 14:1-3). No physical, spiritual, or emotional distress can separate us from the Prince of peace. —Keith R. Keyser

When a bride and groom stand together to exchange vows they say to one another, “All that I am I give to you, and all that I have I share with you.” On the cross, our Bridegroom took all that we have to give Him—our sin, our death, our shame, our sorrows, our sicknesses—and their consequences, and destroyed them forever.  And what did our Bridegroom give to His Bride? Today the Lord wishes to be a hiding place for you and a covering from the fierce tempest of God’s wrath. He longs to satisfy your soul with the water of life and the comfort of sins forgiven. But He will not always be available. After death, the Christ-rejector will find no place of protection. It will be too late. —Arnot P. McIntee
