Description

Thomas Bentley was born in Belfast in 1924. At eleven years of age he was saved through the words of Rev. 3:20. At fourteen years of age he was received into the fellowship of the assembly that met in Ebenezer Gospel Hall, Oldpark Road, Belfast. He began his platform ministry on the day he joined the assembly by giving his testimony that same night.

In 1945 he responded to the call of God and in February 1956, he was commended by the assembly at Ebenezer Gospel Hall, Belfast, to serve the Lord in full time capacity. Thomas, his late wife Josephine and two young children, left these shores in November 1956 for Malaya/Malaysia. Josephine predeceased him in 1970 and subsequently married Grace in 1973. Together they devotedly continued to serve the Lord until his homecall on 9 June 2011.

A Biography of Thomas Bentley from the pen of his wife Grace provides a carefully-documented account of a life lived to please the Lord in a very demanding pathway of obedience that took him to various countries and through triumphs and difficulties that few have encountered. His determination to know, and be subject to, the will of God in every circumstance will test the convictions of every reader. Evident too in this biography is his love for the Lord and His people, and for the Word of God. Younger readers will find much help in the guidance he provided to all who study the Scriptures. Aspiring preachers will gain greatly from the portrait of an earnest able seeker of souls.

Thomas Bentley contributed extensively in writing to various assembly magazines and authored the commentary on the epistle to the Colossians in What the Bible Teaches published by John Ritchie Ltd. In December 2011, his Exposition of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. sub-titled Pattern for Christian Living, was published Posthumously.
