Things New & Old (Volume 28)
Edited by: Charles Stanley
Excellent food for the flock of God can be found in these bound volumes of periodicals edited by C. H. Mackintosh (Volume 1-21) and Charles Stanley (Volume 22-33). You will likely find browsing them to be a delight to your soul.
1. Superb Short Articles
Each volume of Things New & Old is filled with a series of short and helpful articles. There’s a real mix of topics over the years and many topics were continued over many months. If you read a lot of ministry by C. H. Mackintosh and C. Stanley, you will find that some of their books began as a series of articles in these periodicals. Volume 28 contains two enlightening series of articles. One begins a series on the book of Revelation and begins with a very brief and useful summary of each chapter. Another series digs into the parables of the Lord. There are a lot of good lessons to learn from The Unmerciful Servant and others. Don’t miss the arrow to the conscience from the life of Asa. The type for that section is a bit poor but quite readable. It’s the moral content that makes it humbling for some of us to read.
2. Larger Print
These volumes have noticeably larger type and good contrast in comparison to the original bound volumes. If your eyes are tired at the end of a long day, you might find these editions a welcome help.
3. Don’t Expect Perfection
We have looked for the best copies of the original volumes of Things New and Old that we could find in preparing these editions. However there are some pages that show minor speckling, oddly formed characters or in a few cases some shadowing on the inner part of the page. None of it makes the pages unreadable but they don’t look freshly typeset either.
