Deuteronomy 6:1-7:11; Ecclesiastes 8:1-9:10; Luke 8:22-39

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Psalm 41:1 NKJV
I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me. Psalm 40:17 NKJV

“Considers” implies “to be circumspect” or in other words intelligent. We need to be wary of deceptive schemes and impostors, but also be very aware of those in genuine need whether that be physical or spiritual. The Lord Jesus set the example for us in reaching out to those with serious physical need as well as those who were poor in spirit. “Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor” (2 Cor. 8:9). “For the poor always ye have with you” (John 12:8). Through the eyes of Christ, let us consider and help them.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Lift up the fallen, tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save. —F. J. Crosby
