1 Kings 8:1-30; Jeremiah 15:1-21; Philippians 1:1-20

Then he became very thirsty; so he cried out to the Lord and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?” Judges 15:18 NKJV

After slaying a thousand Philistines, Samson was terribly dehydrated. He called on the Lord, who led him to a spring of water which God caused to flow out of a cleft in the ground. Christ cried out, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink” (John 7:37). We learn from Samson’s exploits that we too must rely on the Lord not only to engage the enemy, but also to sustain the victory afterwards. Serving the Lord does not quench the believer’s thirst; that comes from the Lord too. —W. A. H.
