DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 14:5-31; Psalms 49-50; Acts 7:30 to 8:4

And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses…And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath he not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it.  Numbers 12:1-2

We are all prone to be critical. We need to take heed that the Lord is listening. Miriam and Aaron forgot that the Lord could hear their bitter conversation! Judgment fell upon them. To gossip or complain about another person or to say anything disparaging of someone should never be part of a believer’s conversation. What will the Lord hear us say today. —Pete Smith

Begin, my tongue, some heavenly theme,
And speak some boundless thing;
The mighty works, or mightier name,
Of our eternal King.
—Isaac Watts

Lord’s Day, February 22, 2015

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 13 to 14:4; Psalms 47-48; Acts 7:1-29

For as often as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come.  1 Corinthians 11:26

As I drove into town on a beautiful Sunday morning, I couldn’t help but notice the boats heading toward the harbour. Numerous people were gathering for an annual “fun run” which ends at the harbour. As I paid for the bread and wine for our Breaking of Bread, the lady behind the counter commented, “Oh, is it Sunday today?” What value do I place on Sunday—the Lord’s day? Do I want to go and meet with the Lord and His people, or is it just another day to live for myself? Today may I remember His death for me on the cross, and bring Him the worship that He truly deserves, for He is worthy. —Janet Fleming

Today He speaks to each of us, Compelling, tenderly,
I gave my life, I died for you, Will you remember me?

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 12:21-51; Psalm 45-46; Acts 6

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands…but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.  Hebrews 9:24

In this chapter there are three appearings of the Lord Jesus. Presently, He now appears in Heaven as our Advocate (1 John 2:1) pleading on our behalf. He has never lost a case! He won the right to be there through His past appearing when He put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself (v. 26). He will appear a second time in the future for salvation (v. 28). What a day that will be! —Rex Trogdon

Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified; freely forever:
One day He’s coming! Oh, glorious day!

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 11 to 12:20; Psalm 44; Acts 5:12-42

…fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy.  Luke 2:10

This world is a fearful place. Uncertainties and disappointments are woven into the fabric of human experience. Change characterizes the day; from education to technology to fashion, and it seems we are often just holding on so we don’t get left behind. But the good tidings the angels spoke about is “the Gospel”. Rock solid, it doesn’t change with the ebb and flow of time. We can anchor our lives to it. God loves us, Jesus died for us, and whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. —Charlie Tempest

Send the proclamation over vale and hill,
‘Tis a loving Father, calls the wanderer home,
Whosoever will may come.
—Philip P. Bliss

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 10; Psalms 42-43; Acts 4:32 to 5:11

Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the Lord: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.  Gen. 24:50

Knowing God’s will can be a challenge at times. Who to marry? What career to choose? Which house to buy? The story of Abraham’s servant seeking a bride for Isaac is most helpful. He was sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings; he was aware of the divine arrangement of circumstances and he was prepared to submit to the will of the authorities. We too can follow his example and say “I being in the way, the Lord led me”. —Sid Halsband

He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.
—Joseph Henry Gilmore

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 9; Psalm 40-41; Acts 4:1-31

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.  3 John 1:4

The Lord may well bless you in material things. There is nothing wrong with that. However, the greatest joy is to see your children going on with the Lord. What riches indeed! Pray that your children and grandchildren will exceed you spiritually, and you will have a marvelous legacy, by His grace—and His grace alone. —Brian Russell

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Saviour am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
—Fanny Crosby

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 8; Psalms 38-39; Acts 3

…thine handmaid hath not anything…save a pot of oil.  2 Kings 4:2

A shepherd’s rod (Gen. 4:2). A widow’s jar (1 Kgs. 17:14). A small cloud (1 Kgs. 18:44). A grain of seed (Mark 4:31). Five loaves and two fish (Luke 9:13). God delights in using little things! Gideon defeated a vast army with 300 men. David slew Goliath with five smooth stones. 120 people—filled with the Holy Spirit—turned their world upside down. It’s not what we have that counts, but Who we have! Discouraged by the “littleness” in your life today? Take it. Pour it. Plant it. Break it, before God! And wait for an abundance of rain! —Deborah Manera

Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart.
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
—H. B. Grose

DAILY?READINGS: Exodus 6:14 to 7:25; Psalm 37; Acts 2:22-47

…I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it…And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. Genesis 15:7-8, 17

In ancient times, a contract between two parties was sealed by both of them walking between the halves of severed animals. It was a solemn symbol of the depth of their individual commitment. After God promised Abraham a future, it was God who walked between the animals. He held Himself responsible to fulfill the promise. He is both Just and the Justifier and we stand amazed. —Jared Fraser

Christ’s grave is vacant now, left for the throne above;
His Cross asserts God’s right to bless, in His own boundless love.
—Author Unknown
