In October 2010, people rejoiced at the triumph of the human spirit as 33 Chilean miners were safely rescued from the deep places of the earth. The human spirit there was greatly influenced by the miners’ faith in God and by the earnest prayers of family and friends. The men wore t-shirts as they surfaced. On the front it read, “Thank you, Lord.” On the back were the words of the above verse. Our media avoids any recognition of faith in God. Yet God’s goodness will receive testimony. How good to see Him acknowledged and honoured. —Brian Powlesland

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:8, KJV

“Dozens Homeless from Flooding.” “Five People Dead in Wake of Tornado.” Such events headlined by the media are termed “acts of God.” Where are the newspaper articles stating that the gorgeous sunset, or the much needed rain were acts of God? These we take for granted. And what about the supreme Act of God? Isaiah 53:4-5 points us to Christ who was “smitten of God” when “He was wounded for our transgressions” (KJV). You can take the rest of God’s gifts for granted if you wish, but if you avoid this supreme act of God you will be lost forever. Come to Him today. —D. Logan

The work done by the Lord at Calvary was something only He could do. He was the only One who could take away sin—the sinless died for the sinner. He was the only One who could raise Himself from the dead! How wonderful! He is alive and able to cleanse anyone who puts their trust in Him. “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, NKJV). —Jim Paul

These are words of personal invitation. We are invited to come to a Person, not to a church, a creed or an organization. “Come to me,” the Lord Jesus says. Joining a church will not save you or solve your spiritual problems. Yet many have joined churches and attended meetings without ever finding the rest that comes with salvation. Are you one of them, my friend? In order to find true rest, forgiveness of sins and a new life in Christ, you must come to Him. Delay no longer. Do it today! —Carl Knott

What a tragic ending! For three years the Lord had sought to mould Judas’ life, like a potter moulds clay. Finally the clay was too hard and had to be rejected. Judas committed suicide and was buried in the place set aside for strangers. Will you respond to the claims of Christ upon your life before your heart becomes hardened by sin? If you continue to reject the Saviour you will end up on the “rubbish heap of eternity.” Friend, don’t become another wasted life—a stranger to God. —David Croudace

Although sin abounded upon the face of the earth, God, through His grace, provided a remedy. The ark was completely covered inside and outside with pitch (the word used for “atonement”) for security. Only those who went into the ark were saved from the waters of judgment. In due time God, in the riches of His grace, sent His only begotten Son to be the propitiation for our sins. On the cross Christ bore God’s judgment in our stead. Christ is the only ark of safety. Are you resting in Him today? —E. MacLelland

The gospel of Christ…is the power of God. Romans 1:16, KJV

The preaching of the cross…is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18, KJV

The root of the word “power” has to do with ability. The gospel of Christ makes available God’s power to save us, because it preaches the cross. And not just any cross but the cross of Christ, who being sinless became sin and died on the cross in our place. There was no other way for God to remain just and yet be the justifier. If there were, He would have removed that “cup” from Him. “Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints” (Revelation 15:3, KJV). —Tom Steere

Behring MacDowell, returning from Africa, was asked his profession by a customs official. Hearing he was a missionary,
he asked, “What’s Isaiah 53:6?” Behring gladly quoted it and the official smiled and said, “Welcome home!” Could you have
quoted this wonderful verse that begins and ends with “all”? All are sinners, but Christ is the sin bearer for us all. Put your trust
in Him and one day you will hear Him say, “Welcome home!” —Rex Trogdon

In his painting entitled The Raising of the Cross, Rembrandt vividly portrayed Christ in deep agony on Calvary’s cruel
tree. A careful examination of the masterpiece reveals one of the observers with the likeness of Rembrandt. It was his
way of saying, “I was there.” The beloved apostle Paul put it this way, “the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me”
(Galatians 2:20, NKJV). Friend, Christ loved and died for you. Believe it for eternal salvation. —Arnot P. McIntee
