DAILY READINGS: Gen. 33:18 to 34:31; Psalms 4-6; Matt. 19:1-15

This know, that in the last days perilous times shall come.2 Tim. 3:1

In the last few years the world has undergone more dramatic changes than at any other time in history. Fear has gripped its inhabitants everywhere. Great floods, earthquakes, famines, disease, as well as wars and terrorism quail men's hearts. National and international leaders have spent endless hours trying to reach solutions. These events all point to the fact that our Jesus Christ will come soon. The only true place of security is in knowing Him as Saviour and Lord! —Jim Paul

Be still my soul: nor contemplate disaster,
The hand that led, still leads thee on life’s way.
While world events move on – both grave, faster,
For thee they lead to life’s eternal day. —J. D. Smith

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 32 to 33:17; Psalms 1-3; Matt. 18:15-35

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:29-30

A yoke joins oxen to help with their task of carrying heavy loads. The yoke is perfectly made to fit the oxen so they can work together. The Lord used this illustration to show that when we place our faith in Him we are now in a close personal relationship with Him. His yoke is tailor-made in that He will not allow us to bear more than we can handle, because He has been "touched with the feeling of our infirmities" (Heb. 4:15). Will you not submit to His will and give Him full control of your life? —Bob Cretney

Cast your care on Jesus today, leave your worry and fear,
Burdens are lifted at Calvary, Jesus is very near. —John M. Moore

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 31; Job 42; Matt. 17:14 to 18:14

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Corinthians 2:12

The carnal Christians at Corinth were focused on the visible and the material. Is it any wonder that the apostle speaks of “things” over 60 times in the epistle? However, the true and enduring things are those precious and manifold blessings our God gives us. They can only be perceived by the child of God, remaining invisible to the natural eye. They are treasures in heaven, yet enjoyed upon earth—beyond human wisdom, beyond corruption and decay. Dear child of God, do you truly realize what is yours? —Rick Morse

Since from His bounty I receive, such proofs of love divine;
Had I a thousand hearts to give; Lord they should all be Thine. –Stennett

Here are our newest additions to the Gospel Folio Library!

Henry Moorhouse was an English evangelist whose life didn’t start out glorifying God. He really learned the importance of John 3:16 and of God’s love for His people. You can read more about his humble life in the Biography of Henry Moorhouse by John MacPherson. You can also read some of his work in the Collective Writings and Sermons of Henry Moorhouse. He was a very humble man and our designer Lisa (who worked extensively on both) believes these books are worth the read!

Prophets Foretold Him looks at the Old Testament prophecies that relate to the coming of the Messiah. Here is an excerpt from the back cover:

This volume considers some of the many prophecies Almighty God revealed beforehand concerning His Son, and their amazing, detailed and, humanly speaking, inexplicable fulfilment in the fullness of time. Fulfilled prophecy is one of the many evidences that the Bible is no ordinary book but the very Word of the living God. Only the eternal God knows the future, and thus only the eternal God can truly reveal the future.
Be prepared to be amazed! Here is a book to further your confidence in and wonder at the inspired Word of God. And here is a book to fuel your devotion to the One of Whom all Scripture points: the Lord Jesus Christ. The inspired Word and the incarnate Word cannot be separated.

The Bee-attitudes is a great book that concentrates on Jesus’ teachings on the Beatitudes. Jesus fulfills all of the characteristics of the Beatitudes and teaches us the character we should have as His followers.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 30; Job 40-41; Matt. 16:13 to 17:13

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. 2 Corinthians 2:15

Years ago I had a bookmark that read, “Nothing honours God more than the imitation of His Son.” That we can aspire to such a goal is staggering as is God’s suggestion that this is even possible. The hymn writer said it thus: “And is it so, I shall be like Thy Son?” Today let us purpose to live for God as the fragrance of Christ—to live in such a way that we may “perpetually remind God of the obedience, sacrifice, and devotion of the Lord Jesus and that our words and deeds may recall to His heart similar ones in the earthly life of Jesus.” —M. MacMullen

All like thee, for Thy glory like thee Lord,
Object supreme of all, by all adored. —J. N. Darby

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 29; Job 38-39; Matt. 15:29 to 16:12

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. Romans 8:12

As creatures we are debtors to our Creator. As sinners we are debtors to God’s mercy. As believers we are no longer debtors to God’s justice because Christ paid the debt on our behalf. I owed a debt I could not pay. He paid that debt with His precious blood on the cross. God will not demand payment twice, first at my Saviour's bleeding hands and then again at mine. Conscious of the great debt He paid on our behalf, we should offer ourselves a living sacrifice, not to repay the debt but in an attitude of deep gratitude and worship. —Milton Haack

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. —Martin Luther

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 28; Job 36-37; Matt. 15:1-28

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13

I know a young girl who has a strong Scottish accent. Her parents do not, and as far as I know the little girl has never been to Scotland before. Why does she speak in such a unique way? She loves to spend time with her grandparents—who are from Scotland! In that same way, the more time we spend with the Lord, the more we will become like Him. May those around us find only one explanation for the way we are—that we love to spend time with the Lord Jesus. —L. Shatford

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 27; Job 34-35; Matt. 14:13-36

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. Ecclesiastes 4:9

There is nothing wrong with one, but two are better. There are many things that are good, but there are sometimes things that are better. David said, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee,” (Ps. 56:3). That is a good thing to do when we are afraid. But, Isaiah said, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation,” (Is. 12:2). This is better. Always choose the better instead of the good. —Harold G. Smith

He goes before me and is beside me, So I am not afraid. —Ellis Govan

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 26; Job 32-33; Matt. 13:44 to 14:12

And He took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when He had taken him in His arms, He said unto them. Mark 9:36

Relationships amongst the Twelve were strained; a spirit of rivalry and disputing was evident. Observe how gently the Lord dealt with it. First, He “took a child” then a little later, He “took a towel” . By means of a well-chosen object lesson and by personal example, He taught powerful lessons about the nature of true greatness, and how to achieve it. May we exhibit the same grace. —George Hall

O Lord, with meekness and with shame,
We meekly would confess,
How little we, who bear Thy name,
Thy mind, Thy ways express. —James G. Deck

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 25; Job 31; Matt. 13:24-43

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying… of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:16-17

Why did the Creator introduce a restriction into paradise? The answer is that He required obedience from His creatures. His word was final and man, as a moral being with a free will, was now being tested. Not only were the circumstances created to test obedience but the consequences of disobedience were clearly stated. The choice to obey or disobey God’s call to salvation is just as real today as it was in Eden. It will either be eternal life or eternal death! What is your choice? —Drew Craig

Choose now, just now for the Lord is here, and angels your answer await,
Choose, just now, while the call is clear; tomorrow may be too late! —R. T. Owen
