DAILY?READINGS: 1 Samuel 4-5; Isaiah 47; 2 Corinthians 8

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Timothy 5:17

The shepherd-elder is challenged by the diversity of those he serves. A. W. Tozer writes, “There are the educated and the ignorant, the well-read and those who read only the comics and sport page, the sensitive and the tough-minded”. And there are varied ages. Tozer further states, “The man of God may labour in complete trust realizing the basic stuff of human nature is the same in all”. However, without the Spirit’s skillful working, the ministry will be futile. As shepherds look after the flock, may we give them due respect by taking heed to their faithful care. —E. Dyck

Make me a servant like You, dear Lord, living for others each day;
Humble and meek, helping the weak, loving in all that I say. —Hamilton
