Numbers 4:1-49; Proverbs 1:1-33; Mark 14:1-26

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me…Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation. Psalm 51:10, 12

The Psalmist’s cry for a clean heart and a right spirit infers his recognition of the absence of these in his life. What had robbed him of this? He acknowledges that sin had (v. 3). We cannot experience the freedom of a cleansed heart and right spirit while harbouring sin in our lives. But our fellowship and joy can once again be restored upon confession (1 John 1:9). Why delay? —E. V.

See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from ev’ry sin and set me free. —J. Edwin Orr
