Genesis 40:1-23; Psalm 18:1-29; Matthew 23:1-39

Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my
defence; I shall not be greatly moved. Psalm 62:1-2

This psalm may have been written during Absalom’s rebellion, and David is seen waiting on God to act. In verse five, he says, “My soul, wait thou only upon God”. The word “wait”, suggests “to pause for further instructions”. Silent waiting is a most difficult discipline. Someone has said, “Waiting is but prolonged trust and lengthened hope.” Too often we frantically seek an answer instead of waiting silently and patiently for God. —Jim Comte

Be still, my soul! The Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain. —Katharina von Schlegel
