DAILY READINGS: Gen. 19; Job 22:1-30; Matt. 10:24-11:1

Jesus wept. John 11:35, KJV
Rejoice evermore. 1 Thessalonians 5:16, KJV

Two of the shortest verses in the Bible, yet with profound lessons. Jesus wept, not only at the loss of his friend Lazarus in death, but because He saw the effects of sin, “For the wages of sin is [eternal] death” (Romans 6:23, KJV). But, if we accept God’s salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord, we can be assured that He will remove our transgressions “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12, KJV). He will remember our sins no more. Is that not worth rejoicing about? —Bob Cretney

Rejoice in the Lord! Oh, let His mercy cheer;
He sunders the bands that enthrall;
Redeemed by His blood, why should we ever fear,
Since Jesus is our all in all? —G. M. J.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 18; Job 21:1-34; Matt. 10:1-23

In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues. Luke 7:21

What if a doctor examined you and gave you the news that you were terminally ill? You are, spiritually! You were born with the congenital disease of sin, and it is fatal (Romans 6:23). No doctor, medicine, diet, philosophy, or religion can cure this plague. The Lord Jesus Christ is your only hope. If you repent and call on Him in faith, He will save you in that same hour. He alone has the power to cure you of sin and its deadly effect. Come out of denial, recognize your condition and need, and call upon the Lord. Time is running out. Do it now! —Carl Knott

Time is gliding swiftly by, death and judgment draweth nigh,
To the arms of Jesus fly, be in time. —Charles H. Mason

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 17; Job 20:1-29; Matt. 9:18-38

Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. John 21:25

The Library of Congress is the world’s largest library. It has over 32 million books, yet that vast number could not tell the full story of our Saviour. It is startling to consider that only a fraction of the Lord’s exploits is recorded. What is written is so that  “you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). Is this a truth you have grasped and believed? —Brian Powlesland

Lord, I have made Thy Word my choice, my lasting heritage;
There shall my noblest powers rejoice, my warmest thoughts engage.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 15-16; Job 18:1-19:29; Matt. 8:28-9:17

You must be born again. John 3:7
Who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:13

The new birth does not come through parents (“not of blood“), nor does it come through desire (“the will of the flesh“), nor does it come through determination (“the will of man“). The issue is, have you put your faith in Christ? Have you been born of God? Have you been born from above? Apart from this you will never enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Believe on Christ now, tomorrow may be too late. —W. Ross Rainey

Children of men, attend to the word,
So solemnly uttered by Jesus the Lord;
And let not this message to you be in vain,
“Ye must be born again.”—William T. Sleeper

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 13-14; Job 16:1-17:16; Matt. 8:1-27

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you Psalm 86:5

What an encouragement this is: the Lord, in His goodness, is not reluctant but ready to forgive. None need despair, however deep his sins are, for He is plenteous in mercy. There are also no restrictions; the offer is unto all that call upon Him. “For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved‘” (Romans 10:13). —Reg. L. Jordan

Come away to Jesus, He is willing to forgive;
His love will shine around you every moment that you live.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 11:27-12:20; Job 15:1-35; Matt. 7:7-29

“Man, your sins are forgiven you.” Luke 5:20
And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Luke 7:48

On these two occasions, our Lord Jesus pronounced certain persons’ sins forgiven. A paralyzed man and an immoral woman received this great blessing. Neither the number nor the nature of their sins was a decisive factor. Nor did He demand an extended period of penitence as a prior condition of His forgiveness. But this He did look for—”faith” or “trust” in Himself. Without that, there could be no forgiveness. The Gospel’s promise is, “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43). —George Hall

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 10-11:26; Job 13:1-14:22; Matt. 6:19-7:6

I set My rainbow in the cloud. Genesis 9:13, NKJV
And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you… Exodus 12:13, NKJV

Our God is the saving and preserving God as well as the just and righteous God. The rainbow promises that He will never again destroy all humanity with a flood as in Noah’s day. And the blood that the Israelites put on their doors saved them from the death-dealing Angel. So every one who trusts the Lord Jesus Christ, who shed His blood for their sins, will be saved. His word is true. —Ben Tuininga

Precious blood that has redeemed us, All the price is paid!
Perfect pardon now is offered, Peace is made.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 8:20-9:29; Job 11:1-12:25; Matt. 6:1-18

Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” Matthew 27:22, NKJV

What was Pilate to do with this man whose death was demanded by the people? His wife counselled EVASION: “Have nothing to do with that just Man” (Matthew 27:19, NKJV). This is an impossibility, for He is the great unavoidable One. He can be NEGLECTED. King Agrippa said, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian” (Acts 26:28, NKJV). He can be REJECTED. “He who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him“. Or He can be ACCEPTED. “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life” (John 3:36, NKJV). What will you do? —Neil Dougal

Hallelujah! ‘Tis done, I believe on the Son;
I am saved by the blood of the crucified One.—Philip P. Bliss

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 7:11-8:19; Job 9:1-10:22; Matt. 5:21-48

They…hate me without a cause… Psalm 69:4, KJV
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Man has the strange capacity to hate for no reason whatever. This is so clearly demonstrated in his treatment of the Lord Jesus. Yet God has the even more remarkable capacity to love without a cause. If God required a reason before He could love us, we all would be utterly without hope. Yet now we can love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19)! —Fred Cameron

Causeless, ceaseless, changeless Love,
How it ought my heart to move;
In the Cross man’s hate we see
O’erwhelmed by Love’s immensity.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 6:1-7:10; Job 8:1-22; Matt. 5:1-20

Father, forgive them… Luke 23:34, KJV

Oh! the magnitude of divine forgiveness! Jesus prayed for Judas, Pilate, the rulers, soldiers, criminals and the rabble mob. But beyond them, He prayed for all mankind; for you and me! Dare any person limit the magnitude of His forgiveness? Yes, all do not receive it, but they can if they will! Have YOU received it? Jesus prayed for YOU! —J. W. Bramhall

“Forgive them, O forgive;” He cried,
And bowed His sacred head.
O Lamb of God, my sacrifice—
For me Thy blood was shed.
