DAILY?READINGS: Leviticus 4:27 to 5:13; Psalm 104; Acts 27:1-26

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. Psalm 73:26

Asaph’s personal crisis had nearly caused him to slip from his faith. Why did God permit the wicked to prosper? What value was there in salvation, if the righteous suffer and the wicked remain unpunished? These are age old questions and still relevant today. Ignorance concerning God’s sovereignty had vexed Asaph’s soul, but now he realized that the fate of the wicked was sealed, but in God’s timing. Material prosperity is temporary and only what is spiritual has lasting value. Thus, Asaph, was able to rejoice in his salvation again—the Lord was his portion and ours too! —W. A. H.

Thou art my portion, Lord; Thy words I ever heed;
With all my heart, Thy grace I seek, Thy promises I plead.
