DAILY READINGS: 2 Samuel 12:1-31; Habakkuk 3:1-19; Romans 16:1-27

Why is light given to him who is in misery, And life to the bitter of soul. Job 3:20 (NKJV)

Job 3 is bleak. Some assume Job does not know what he is saying. Yet, he does. He is voicing his feelings with painful honesty. Should we fault him for being transparent? Is it not better to honestly express our doubts and pain to the Lord than camouflage our true feelings with a false spirituality? Job asked God “why?” But heaven was silent. It is not irreverent to sincerely ask God “why,” as this reveals genuine faith which cannot make sense of His ways. God’s prerogatives rest with Him; man is responsible to obey what is revealed. We must learn to trust in God’s dependable character at all times. —W. A. H.
