2 Chronicles 21:1-22:12; Ezekiel 40:1-49; John 17:1-26

The great dragon was cast out (of Heaven), that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan. Revelation 12:9
The devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire… tormented day and night for ever and ever. Revelation 20:10

We may not know God’s timetable but we are confident regarding the end of our adversary, the Devil. We are also told that all those not found written in the book of life will share that lake of fire with him (Rev. 20:15). This knowledge should stir within us two great emotions. First a grateful heart that we know the Saviour and then a deep concern for those around us who don’t know Him. —Ken Gross

2 Chronicles 20:1-37; Ezekiel 39:1-29; John 16:16-33

A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him? Ecclesiastes 10:14

Who knows what lies ahead? God does. Portions of the Old Testament are divinely inspired prophecy by men—men who couldn’t possibly know the future apart from God’s revelation to them. Our future is part of God’s eternal plan. “For the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame” (Heb. 12:2). Next in His timetable is the rapture of the saints! What a joyful future moment that will be! —Vernon Markle

2 Chronicles 18:1-19:11; Ezekiel 38:1-23; John 15:17-16:15

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem…If I do not remember thee…let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth. Psalm 137:5-6

The Jews in captivity in Babylon would rather have their speech silenced than to forget Jerusalem. Later when Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph His disciples welcomed Him with “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord…” The Pharisees asked the Lord to silence them. He replied, “…if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:38, 40). Today you are the living stones (1 Peter 2:5) remembering the Lord. Are you silent or “crying” out to praise Him? —K. C. Ung

Praise the Saviour, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him, all we are and have. —Thomas Kelly

2 Chronicles 16:1-17:19; Ezekiel 37:1-28; John 15:1-16

Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Luke 18:1

A little boy was asked if he prayed every day. “Nope,” was his quick reply, “some days I don’t need nothin’!” How often we are like this boy and use prayer as a fire extinguisher, only in the case of emergencies. The Lord reminds us, as does Paul, that prayer ought to be our daily exercise and we should never lose heart. God always answers prayer, however, not always according to our time schedule or our wishes. As our wise Heavenly Father, He knows what is best for us. —Jim Comte

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer,
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne,
Make all my wants and wishes known. —W. Walford

2 Chronicles 14:1-15:19; Ezekiel 36:16-38; John 14:15-31

Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall. Ruth 3:18

Ruth was anxious to know whether Boaz would take her to be his wife. Naomi gave advice which every young person would do well to heed. “Sit still…until.” Never make a hasty decision concerning marriage. Wait upon the Lord “until” He guides you to the one He has chosen to be your life-long spouse. Remember He loves you and is more concerned than you could ever be about who you should marry. If you wait upon Him, He will guide you to the right person at the right time and you’ll meet that one in the right way. —David Croudace

2 Chronicles 12:1-13:22; Ezekiel 35:1-36:15; John 13:3-14:14

My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. Exodus 33:14

The road outside an army base was alive with young men hitchhiking their way to town. The large number made drivers fearful of stopping. However, farther along the road stood a solitary soldier bearing a simple sign of but two words—“Good Company.” Dear fellow believer, if you are looking for the best possible company on the road of life, walk in intimate fellowship with your beloved Lord. In His company, there is rest. —Arnot P. McIntee

I must have the Saviour with me, for I dare not walk alone;
I must feel His presence near me, and His arms around me thrown. —L. Edwards

2 Chronicles 10:1-11:23; Ezekiel 34:1-31; John 13:1-30

For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:13, NKJV

Think of “mercy triumphs over judgment,” as an axiom for Christian living. Gracious mercy was undoubtedly witnessed by James (the Lord’s brother) in their Nazareth home. Later, the family could affirm that Jesus never discriminated against anyone in the miracles He performed and the forgiveness He granted. When others wanted Him to be harsh, He showed mercy (Luke 9:54). There’s a great difference between hard decisions and harsh decisions. Mercy always triumphs in the long run and ultimately will be vindicated at the Judgment Seat. —Peter Ramsay

2 Chronicles 8:1-9:31; Ezekiel 33:1-33; John 12:20-50

Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Psalm 29:1-2

What a wonderful psalm of praise this is! It tells of God’s majesty and might; His power and control over nature. It tells of the pleasure that He derives from the things He has created. He enjoys them all from the largest to the smallest. His crowning creation is His people. He not only made them but He has redeemed them so He can enjoy them being with Him forever. What a wonderful God we have! —G. Frear

The Mighty One is worthy alone for the glory and strength He’s shown;
Give Him glory due to His name, for He alone is worthy of fame.—G.F.

2 Chronicles 7:1-22; Ezekiel 32:1-32; John 11:55-12:19

The son of Dan was Hushim (Shuham). Genesis 46:23, NKJV
All the families of the Shuhamites…were sixty-four thousand four hundred. Numbers 26:43, NKJV

Dan had only one son. In a culture where sons meant security and respect I wonder if this was a disappointment to him and his wife. This could have been compounded by constantly seeing his many nephews running around Goshen. When the second Israelite census was taken, Dan’s single son’s descendants had produced the third largest tribe. What, humanly speaking, seemed insignificant, God turned into an impressive multitude! —Danielle Robins

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;

2 Chronicles 6:12-42; Ezekiel 30:20-31:18; John 11:28-54

For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house. 1 Chronicles 17:25a, NKJV
In My Father’s house are many mansions…I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2, NKJV

David was determined to build a house for the Lord. Instead, the Lord promised that He would build David a house. While here on earth, Christ dwelt among us. Before departing He said that He was going to prepare a place for us—in the Father’s house. One day He will come and take us to our eternal home. —Rex Trogdon

Oh, the soul-thrilling rapture when I view His blessed face,
And the luster of His kindly beaming eye;
How my full heart will praise Him for the mercy, love and grace,
That prepare for me a mansion in the sky. —Fanny J. Crosby
