Nehemiah 12:1-47; Zechariah 8:1-23; Revelation 16:1-21

They shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23

Right from the start of Matthew’s gospel we hear his message— that the Christ who came was to be a king for the Gentiles as well as for the Jews. Matthew quotes the prophet Isaiah who not only gives the Messiah’s Hebrew name but provides a translation of that name. Why was a translation needed if the announcement
was for Jews only? No, this Messiah, this King, was for all nations, and would welcome and save all who would come to Him. Precious name. —M. MacMullen

His name shall be called Counsellor, the mighty Prince of Peace,
Of all earth’s kingdoms Conqueror, whose reign shall never cease.  —W. H. Clark
