DAILY?READINGS: 1 Chronicles 16; Ezekiel 16:35-63; John 6:1-21

For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Matthew 7:29

The gardens at Packwood House in Warwickshire are famous for their many fine yew trees laid out in a formation to depict a crowd. In front of them are 12 larger yew trees representing the 12 disciples and in front of them all is a single elevated tree representing Christ. The gardener’s aim was to depict Christ and the “sermon on the mount.” His pronouncements were always captivating and authoritative. May we heed still His commands and keep His Word. —Brian Powlesland

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea.
Within the sacred page I seek Thee Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word! —Mary A. Lathbury
