Exodus 26:1-30; Psalms 70:1-71:24; Acts 15:1-21

I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 1 Corinthians 2:3, NKJV

Would the apostle Paul be acceptable in most pulpits today? Hardly. In an era of professional productions and culture-friendly mini-sermons, it seems that preachers marked by the “demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (v. 4) aren’t as welcome anymore as they once were. Paul had neither “excellence of speech or of wisdom” (v. 1) nor “persuasive words of human wisdom” (v. 4). But he did preach “Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (v. 2). If we have lost power in the pulpit, perhaps we have misplaced our one and only source of it. —N. C. Funston

His strength is perfect when our strength is gone,
He’ll carry us when we can’t carry on. —S. C. Chapman & J. Salley
